“Mr. Minded” by Brandon Minded

Artist Statement
Brandon Minded, who works under the artist moniker MrMinded, is known for delivering both vibrant and abstract expressionist paintings that go on to become the backdrop for many of his various cartoony and kitschy character designs. Drawing influence from the likes of Jim Henson and Salvador Dali, he looks to find ways to conceptualize the various elements found in Nature, and in turn bring them to life by invoking the spirit he sees within them. These elements then go on to become a part of the mediums being worked into the piece he’s creating. These mediums range from acrylic paint, clay, fallen twigs, antler sheds and other naturally sourced materials with maintaining respect to the environment in which they are found. Brandon was born in South Dakota just a 4 hour drive from downtown Minneapolis and moved up to the Twin Cities to pursue schooling in Visual Art and Sound Design for Visual Media. He currently works out of his home studio in Circle Pines, MN.

“Unknowable Landscapes” by Stephanie Trinkner

The meaning we find in things created purely by chance or improvisation shows us that there are connections between seemingly unrelated objects, concepts, or thoughts. In my collage and painting I investigate the way we make these connections and how they can be meaningful. My painting practice is driven by process and intuition, rather than a specific idea that leads me from the start. In this series I used collages to inform each piece, but rather than reproducing each one I use them as a reference to explore where the textures, colors, and images can take me. The abstract forms I make with a certain brushstroke begin to look like the tops of buildings and architectural forms. The pattern and color within one part of a painting seems to be similar to the rugs in the bathroom of my parent’s house. A bright pink and orange section reminds me of flowing water, but the colors turn it into a sunset as they travel down the canvas. I’m most drawn to bright colors, organic shapes, and art that references nature. Although I may begin with an idea that incorporates these elements, I prioritize the instincts I have in the moment that most hold my curiosity. I am influenced by the idea of “both/and” that defines postmodern art and thought. In this way my art can be both strange and familiar; or take on a new meaning for viewers that I never considered as the artist.

“Garden of Eden” is one of the best paintings ever painted by Alix Baptiste. Originally painted in 1993, this painting shows off Alix’s immense talent with attention to detail and wonderful colors which draws the viewer in. This wonderful painting is 62″ x 48″ with a 3 1/2″ frame and is available for $45,000.
Alix Baptiste is originally from Haiti, where he grew up one of nine siblings. At the age of twenty-one, he left Haiti and joined his father and stepmother in Savannah, Georgia. With the encouragement and support for his stepmother, Baptiste began painting as a street artist. He became very successful as a street artist, and his fans encouraged him to move to Savannah’s City Market. Baptiste can still be found painting in the storefront window of his gallery in City Market.
Baptiste’s work is colorful and reminiscent of both his Caribbean upbringing and to some, the coastal region he has called home for the last several decades. Working primarily in acrylics, a common theme in his work includes nature scenes of his native Caribbean.
