Nate Johnson
I really enjoy working with multiple kinds of paint at once. Each one has its own behavior when applied to canvas. Their physical and chemical qualities are fascinating to me. For example, latex is rarely diluted where as water color must be diluted to perform as water color is meant to.
In the series you see here I am working with acrylics and enamel on a thick latex gesso. I like the plasticity of these paints but at the same time they can become liquid which to me seems almost contradictory. Shapes are arranged on the canvas according to color, size and physical attributes to create a more or less even looking composition.
