Artist Spotlight: Lisa Rydin Erickson at Night Art Gallery, Lindstrom, MN

At Night Art Gallery, we are excited to feature the imaginative and nature-inspired work of Lisa Rydin Erickson, a Saint Paul–based artist whose creative path bridges fine art, technology, and heartfelt storytelling. We currently carry a select collection of three of her vibrant prints, each reflecting her unique voice and intuitive approach to digital painting.

Lisa holds a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from the Kansas City Art Institute, and her career spans murals, abstract indigo-dyed canvases, fine art paintings, and most recently—digital illustration and animation. Since 2011, Lisa has embraced the iPad as her primary medium, transforming finger-painted, freehand digital drawings into a growing body of art prints, greeting cards, and animated films.

Her animations have been featured at the Minneapolis–St. Paul International Film Festival, MinnAnimate, and the Minnesota State Fair, as well as conferences like the U of M’s Nature-Based Therapeutics series, underscoring the meditative, healing quality of her work.

Rooted deeply in her love of nature and childhood memories of exploring the Ohio woods, Lisa’s work radiates joy, wonder, and movement. “Playing outside was full of beauty,” she recalls, and this sense of freedom and observation continues to shape her artistic journey. Drawing not from photos but from memory and imagination, Lisa’s intuitive use of color and line offers a visual language that feels both playful and profound.

“My medium since 2011 is painting on the iPad,” she explains. “It’s a freehand, intuitive process—like finger painting. I don’t trace or use photo references. I draw from what’s within.”

In addition to her prints, Lisa produces small-batch products like kitchen towels made with GOTS-certified organic cotton from a fair trade, woman-run, solar-powered company in India. Her wooden serving trays are crafted in Sweden using sustainably sourced birch, further reflecting her commitment to ethical, mindful creation.

Lisa’s work can be found in stores across the Twin Cities, on her website and Etsy shop—and now at Night Art Gallery. Her prints bring warmth, imagination, and soul to any space.

We invite you to explore her collection and discover how her vibrant inner world connects so beautifully to the natural one we share.
